Dan Warzoha to be Honored Posthumously with the David N. Theis Award

April 13, 2022

The Glenville Volunteer Fire Company (GVFC) will mark the eighth anniversary of the David N. Theis Award for Outstanding Service to the Community by honoring the late Greenwich Emergency Management Director and GVFC Chief Daniel S. Warzoha, who died in 2021.

Dan Warzoha’s commitment to the town went far beyond his role as Emergency Management Director, where he was responsible for all town responses to situations ranging from floods, storms, and power outages. His foresight and attention to detail ensured that Greenwich residents would not be “on their own” when an emergency arose.

A former Chief of the Glenville Volunteers, Dan remained a strong supporter of all volunteer firefighters. Whether socializing at the Polish Club, chatting at town parades, or participating in any of his emergency planning sessions, Dan made sure that everyone mattered — the mark of a true leader. Dan’s leadership guaranteed that the “whole was always greater than the sum of its parts,” and the Glenville Volunteer Firefighters are excited to honor our Past Chief for his contributions to our entire town.

The reception and award ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 27, at Tamarack
Country Club. Doors will open at 6:00pm and the ceremony will begin at 7:00.

Invitations will be mailed to previous attendees, but all are welcome to join in honoring Warzoha.

Anyone wishing to attend or sponsor the event can register at the GVFC website, glenvillefire.org, or by calling 203-532-9606.

For the past seven years, the Glenville Volunteers have presented the Theis Award to Greenwich residents who selflessly and compassionately serve the town’s people, organizations, and institutions. Created to memorialize the life of Selectman David Noble Theis, who passed away unexpectedly in 2014, the award celebrates Dave’s spirit of leadership by example. Previous recipients include Livvy Floren, Icy and Scott Frantz, Ed Dadakis, Bea and Peter Crumbine, Larry Simon, and Terry Betteridge, as well as Kerrin Coyle, who was honored posthumously, with Jack Kriskey accepting on her behalf.

The Glenville Volunteer Fire Company, founded in 1903, is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Greenwich. Through its fundraising efforts, the GVFC has been able to acquire specialized equipment that greatly enhances our coverage of Glenville, Backcountry, and the Merritt Parkway, as well as the entire town. Ongoing fundraising will help provide first responders with additional specialized equipment to be used in our mission to serve Greenwich.https://greenwichfreepress.com/around-town/dan-warzoha-to-be-honored-posthumously-with-the-david-n-theis-award-178431/
