GREENWICH — An unidentified elderly woman pulled from a house fire on Windsor Lane Sunday afternoon was declared dead at Stamford Hospital shortly afterward, Greenwich Deputy Fire Chief Brian Koczak said Sunday night.

Koczak withheld the woman’s name pending the notification of her relatives. Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray declined comment on the fire.

Firefighters from the Cos Cob Fire Station arrived on the scene after receiving a 1:55 p.m. call about a house fire at the location with a woman still inside, said Greenwich Fire Chief Peter Siecenski.

Firefighters found the woman in a first floor room adjacent to the two-bay garage. The garage is believed to be where the fire started, Siecenski said.

The fire was put out within 15 minutes of the fire department arriving, Deputy Chief Thomas Zack said.

Firefighters who found the woman unsuccessfully tried to revive her with cardiopulmonary resuscitation before she was taken by Greenwich Emergency Medical Services to the hospital, Siecenski said.

Police and the fire department closed Windsor Lane in both directions for more than three hours Sunday.

The fire is under investigation by the Greenwich and state fire marshal’s office.
